6/30/08 Hi all.....I am finally getting back around to
trying to keep everyone updated on what is going on with my
schedule and life in general. My apologizes for being
so slow....
We had our first Annual Blood Drive at The Irish Mist
yesterday. For a first time event, the Red Cross said
we did very well. I just want to thank everyone who
came out to donate or to support someone they know....
It all makes a difference. Being a recipient of multiple
transfusions, I can only say that if it weren't for
people giving both their time and blood, I wouldn't be
sitting here writing to you today.
We are hoping to run another drive sometime in October.
I will keep you posted.

ALBANY
- Local singer/guitarist Frank Jaklitsch works for the state
full-time, performs free-of-charge several times a week, sells
his albums for about as much it costs to make them and, in his
spare time, raises money for local charities. |
Jaklitsch,
who is best known locally for his crowd-pleasing Irish
entertainment at Eamonn's Pub in Loudonville, is happy to use
his popular tunes and amicable personality to raise money for
people who need it.
The Rensselaer County Concerns You program, an affiliate of
Catholic Charities, has reaped many benefits from Jaklitsch's
generosity over the years.
The program recently enlisted his help for four separate causes.
As a result, four of Jaklitsch's Sunday shows this year will
benefit Concerns You.
On April 29, Jaklitsch will collect clothes for children; the
last Sunday in June he will collect food for the Concerns You
food pantry; the last Sunday in September he will collect
back-to-school supplies and on the last Sunday in November he
will collect coats for children.
All of the Sunday shows are performed at Eamonn's from 5 to 9
p.m.
Concerns You, located at 50 Herrick St. in Rensselaer, provides
food, clothing and case management for needy children and adults
in Albany and Rensselaer counties.
In May, Jaklitsch will take his act to The Egg in Albany to
raise money for Schenectady's Sojourn House, which provides
shelter for single teen-age mothers who have nowhere else to go.
Sojourn House needs a new heating system and it needs to be
weatherized, Jaklitsch explained, so that is what he plans to
get done.
"These people should be as comfortable as possible
considering all of the other problems they have," Jaklitsch
said of the young mothers. "For a lot of people, (Sojourn
House) is their saving grace. If it wasn't for that spot, they
could be out on the street."
Jaklitsch hopes to raise between $5,000 and $7,000 for Sojourn
House next month. If the 400-seat theater sells out, he will
achieve that goal.
Jaklitsch will perform at The Egg on May 4 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets,
half of which have already been sold, cost $17.50 and can be
purchased at The Egg box office. All of the proceeds from ticket
sales will be given directly to Sojourn House.
Joining Jaklitsch for Acoustic Celtic Night at The Egg will be
whistler and fiddle player John Cromie, guitarist Steven Gray,
drummers Steven Butler and Mark Patterson and guest vocalist
Yvonne Mahar.
